In the run-up to the COP26 climate talks which were held in Glasgow in 2021, a group of concerned local residents got together to try to find ways to take practical action to tackle climate change. The group became a SCIO (SC051804) in 2022.
Biggar Area Climate Care has already organised a number of small projects to help people take action to tackle climate change including bike repair workshops (in association with Biggar Bike Shed) and hosting a recycling directory.
Thanks to funding from SLC's Community Led Local Development fund has engaged Scene Connect consultants to carry out a community consultation and feasibility study looking at larger projects such as eBike and eCar hire schemes; a refill hub and a project to improve home energy efficiency. As a result we now have funding from SSE for a project on retrofitting measures to improve home energy efficiency and from the National Lottery Community Fund to run a series of Repair Cafes in the Biggar area.
Membership of Biggar Area Climate Care is open to anyone over 16 in the Biggar area (defined as the ML12 postcode area) who has an interest in the activities of the group. Contact us and ask to be added to our mailing list if you would like to join the group.
